Scott Russell - Physiotherapist, Caloundra Sportscare

Scott graduated from James Cook University (Townsville) in 2008 and has recently made the Sunshine Coast his home after working in Mackay. Scott has experience in sports physiotherapy, work-related injuries and in-patient hospital care. He gained this experience through his work with local sporting teams (including the Mackay Cutters Queensland Cup Rugby League team) and servicing the mining and industrial communities.

Scott is enthusiastic about injury prevention and correct diagnosis of conditions and enjoys working with the active population on the Sunshine Coast. Particular areas of interest include shoulder and knee injuries and conditions involving the neck.

Outside of his work as a Caloundra physiotherapist he enjoys visiting the gym, playing touch football and running.

SIJ Dysfunction

The Sacroiliac joint is located in the lower back and joins the tail bone/ sacrum to the pelvic bones/ ileums. There are two SIJs on either side and their job is to transfer weight from the spine to the pelvis. If excessive forces are placed on these joints, injury/dysfunction may occur. This can be from bending, sitting, lifting, twisting or from running/ jumping. It can be traumatic or from repetitive/prolonged forces. read more
